Phytosanitary Certification

The Bureau issues federal and state phytosanitary certificates on shipments of raw plant materials to facilitate trade with other states and foreign countries. Many states and foreign countries require documentation certifying the plant materials are clean and free of disease and pests before they can be accepted.

Phytosanitary certificates serve as written verification that plants and plant products meet the standards required by other states and foreign countries. They are issued on plant materials such as nursery stock, seed and lumber. Plant materials must be inspected before a phytosanitary certificate can be issued.

Please allow at least 24 hours lead time when applying for Phytosanitary Certificates.

Phytosanitary certificates issued through the Gateway America Irradiation facility in Gulfport will have inspections on Wednesdays and Fridays only. All phytosanitary applications must be emailed to the Bureau of Plant Industry email before 12:00 p.m. CST for an inspection on the same day. Any phytosanitary certificates sent on Friday after 12:00 p.m. CST will not be inspected until the following Wednesday.
