Previously Funded Projects

MDAC has provided funding to various types of projects in the past, and the Agency is always looking for new and innovative projects that will positively impact Mississippi ‘s specialty crop industry.

Below is a sampling of projects previously funded through the SCBGP.

Alcorn State University	Conducting assessment of market potential for medicinal herbs grown in Mississippi .
Mississippi Agritourism Association	Hosted annual agritourism conferences to educate agritourism operators.
Gulf South Blueberry Growers Association	Developed marketing DVD to promote Mississippi blueberries and production DVD to educate blueberries.
Mississippi Sweet Potato Council	Implemented a promotional campaign to promote sweet potatoes and provided a cost-share program to assist growers with cost of receiving GAP/GHP Certification.
Mississippi Nursery and Landscape Association	Established the Mississippi Medallion Native Plant of the Year Program.
Mississippi Association of Cooperatives	Established a statewide program to provide education and training to small farmers on marketing specialty crops.
Mississippi Beekeepers Association	Conducted workshops for beginning and advance beekeepers and implemented a cost-share program to assist individuals getting into beekeeping.
Mississippi Attorney General Office	Established a garden project at a youth detention center to teach students production skills.
Mississippi Coastal Plains Resource Conservation & Development Council	Conducting workshops for rural specialty crop farmers in the areas of specialty crop production, marketing, processing, and financial management.
Mississippi State University	Conducting research on high tunnel production of various crops including strawberries, blackberries, cut flowers, and various organic crops.
Mississippi Urban Forestry Council	Established a community garden and a toolbox that other communities can utilize to develop their own garden.
Farm Families of Mississippi	Implemented a campaign to educate the public on the benefits of buying and consuming locally-grown specialty crops.
